What Do We Expect?
I don't have too much to add to the below quote. I do want to say though that in the midst of the horror that the parents of the slain children are feeling, we must take a close look at our culture. Yes, satan is prowling and I believe that yesterday's events were a satanic attack on the innocent. "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Russell Moore wrote a blog post yesterday in which he said that attacks on children have dotted history because the enemy hates Jesus, who loves the little children, therefore he hates children. He knows his time is short. Christmas is not about the beautiful winter wonderland scenes we put on our cards - Christmas is about God entering into fallen, sinful humanity. Jesus was born into a world that wanted Him destroyed. His family had to flee to Egypt while Herod killed every baby boy in the land trying to find Jesus. It was not pretty and it was not a silent night. The battle that raged in the heavenlies over that tiny baby boy rages on today. Luke, chapter 17 tells us that "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man."
Our culture has completely given way to a mentality of entitlement and godless deprivation, with absolutely no respect for human life. We want God to leave us alone, and then we are appalled at the results when He does. (Romans 1:23-24) As the quote below illustrates, we are reaping what we have sown, and the innocents are the victims. "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7
"We teach our children that there is no God, that morality is tractable and reducible. So what do you expect? We teach our children that there are no losers, that everyone wins. So when life teaches them failure they can't handle it. So what do you expect? We teach our children that losing touch with reality is "recreational". So when they do drugs, it's OK. So what do you expect? We teach our children that you don't have to earn respect, it's automatic. Then they get frustrated when they don't get respected. So what do you expect? We teach our children that it's OK to kill babies in the womb. Then shouldn't it be OK to kill children in the school? So what do you expect? We teach our children that it's wrong to pray on the football field, on the basketball court on the baseball diamond. So they learn to prey on each other. So what do you expect? We teach our children that the truth can be offensive. So they speak lies and pretend. So what do you expect? We teach our children that reverence to things in antiquity is passe, so history is left to obscurity. So what do you expect? We give our children television where every form of deprivation is acceptable. So they grow up depraved. So what do you expect? Sadly, we can expect more Newtowns in the near future. We are reaping what we have sown. Children learn whether we want them to or not. Don't blame the guns, blame our teachings." Shared by Doug Billings.
God have mercy on those involved in the tragedy. Wrap them close as only You can and give them peace that passes all human understanding.
