You Are What You Eat - A Day in Our Life

I have shared a 7-day eating plan which you can find under the "Health Notes" links on the side of the blog.  They are titled "You Are What You Eat - Day 1, 2, 3, etc..."

Today, we have had a good eating day, so I want to share it with you.  Keep in mind that today I need desperately to go to the grocery store, so it was kind of a clean out the fridge day.  These are the days that used to tempt me to run to Chik-Fil-A so the kids would not whine about being hungry.  Not anymore....  - well, I may be tempted, but I can not remember the last time we had fast food.

Breakfast

Today breakfast was Shakeology.  It is a protein shake that is partnered with our new exercise regiment.  We used coconut milk, a spoon of cashew butter, a dash of vanilla and ice.

My home made version is very easy as well:

Turn the vita mix on low and add a tablespoon of the following - cacao powder, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and camu powder or just powdered vitamin C.  Add milk of your choice to the vita mix and turn it on low (8-12 oz) - let it blend thoroughly and turn it up a bit and add a scoop of nut butter of your choice and about 1/4 cup of maple syrup.  Let that blend really well and add a handful of ice.  It is very yummy and filling.

Lunch

I had some hamburger meat and some chicken that needed to be used and I also had random veggies that needed to be eaten.  So, I made some hamburger patties and put them in a pan with a little butter and organic Worcestershire sauce, added some cut up mushrooms and let those sizzle.

Then I boiled the chicken breast to start a chicken soup.

We ate hamburgers for lunch (no bun) with mushrooms and sliced avocado.  We also cut up raw broccoli, cucumbers, sugar snap peas and radishes and made a home made ranch dip.

I did not measure - but in a bowl I whisked together - coconut milk, mayo, blended avocado, dill, and garlic powder.  It was a hit with everyone!!

Dinner

After lunch, I finished making the soup so it could simmer for dinner.  I used chicken breast, chicken stock, carrots, garlic, shallots, dried thyme, and thinly sliced kale.  It simmered all afternoon and was SO yummy.  We salted it to taste in each bowl.

When we sat down to our bowl of soup, I still had some fresh stuff that needed to be used up - so we made a fresh juice.  Patrick's was 2 carrots, 2 pears and an apple.  The rest of us added lemon to our juice and more carrots.

If anyone is hungry before bed, we will pop a pot of popcorn.  Coconut oil, organic kernels - popped and topped with melted grass fed butter and sprinkled with nutritional yeast.

This is a day of no chemicals, plenty of servings of raw fruits and veggies, and high protein.

Everyone is full (but not bloated) and happy.  Blood sugar is balanced and protein intake is good.

These are the days we shoot for.
