Long Day!!

The last few posts I have been praising homeschooling and my wonderful kids, so just to keep it real, lest anyone think that we have it all together, let me just give you a quick "day in the life..."

This morning started out ok, other than the fact that we let the early hours slip by while we "piddled" (if you from the South, you know how to piddle) and accomplished nothing. Then, we finally made it into the school room and we got our Bible reading done and we prayed for our missionaries. Then, we did a little Math, but I am not 100% sure that it got finished. Joshua and Bryce worked on a couple more things. Then, my phone rang. Usually I don't answer it during "school hours" because I talk entirely too much and can't have a quick conversation. It rang several times though and I don't have an ID Box in the school room, so finally, I picked it up. A dear friend of mine (whose name I won't mention) was in tears, having just found out that one of her kids has head lice. She has had a lot going on the past few weeks, and this is just kind of icing on the cake! Not a good phrase I know because there is nothing "sweet" at all about bugs (as my dear friend well knows!). Head lice seems to be making its nasty way swiftly through the group of friends that my kids are with almost every day at one point or another. Specifically, just this week there was a sleep over that involved almost everyone who has recently been exposed to this creepy little bug. Three of my kids were in attendance! Needless to say, when I heard of my friends' plight, I was very sorry for her - but then visions of Bryce's really long, curly, thick, curly....did I say thick mop of hair, crawling with little white bugs danced through my head. Then, the same vision, with MY face danced by as well. Lyndsey's hair is pretty thin and fairly short and I figured I would shave all the hair off the boys if I had to, but Bryce and me....well....I know it's only hair, but.....

Anyway, due to the recent developments, I could not get back in the groove of school, so I came inside and began to wash all the sheets in the house in really hot water. Since many of the kids' friends are dealing with this and no one can really pinpoint where they are coming from, I figured it is better to be safe than sorry. So, all the sheets went into the wash, I took the car to the car wash, I took Joshua to get a haircut (I didn't make him shave it all...YET), and then we all shampooed our hair with shampoo mixed with several drops of rosemary oil. I have no idea if that will help, I just made it up - smells kind of bad though, so I am hoping the bugs will agree!

Now, Stan and I are headed to a meeting at church and the girls are headed to a babysitting job. Meanwhile, the two little ones have done nothing but fight for the past two hours, and Graham got into quite a lot of trouble at the hair salon. I am really hoping that when I get home, they will all be sound asleep and we can get up and try this again tomorrow! G'night!
