This gives me pause.
In case you didn't "hear" me loudly enough, I will say it again. My oldest two children are visiting a college this weekend. Alone. Well, not alone, but without me. And without their Dad.
They are having a blast, hanging out with good friends, eating cafeteria food, and touring the campus. Tomorrow they will go to a soccer game, meet new friends, eat more cafeteria food, attend a few classes, and meet with the college President. It is an exciting time of life, no doubt, and I am thrilled for them. Even more than that I am so thankful and feel so incredibly blessed that they are spiritually strong young adults. Mature in their faith, solid in Whom they believe, and committed to a life that glorifies God. I have no doubt whatsoever that wherever He leads them to college or in life, they will follow, no matter the cost.
This also gives me pause.
It makes me stop and thank Jesus over and over for leading us all the way He has. When I gave birth to twins at age 20 I had NO idea how to be a mom. Thankfully, I had a mom who loved me and who loved my babies, and we muddled through the piles of diapers and endless stream of dirty clothes. However, when my husband and I decided to go out on a limb, move 700 miles away from home, and home school our children, we were entering into unfamiliar territory. We were clueless as to how to navigate this new path that God was leading us down. Thankfully, He loves to show Himself strong when we are weak. He has shown Himself strong, faithful, and patient all these years. The journey has been both long and short, in a way only parents can understand. It has not always been easy, in fact it has rarely been easy - but, it has been worth the sacrifices over and over again. There is nothing I would not go through again to be where we are today.
Then, in His great sovereignty, He allowed us 5 months ago to start all over again. Just when I truly thought we were done with babies (and not because I wanted to be) - He blessed us with another. Now, we have every stage of childhood covered. In our house daily we have an infant, an elementary aged son, a middle school "tween" aged daughter, and two high schoolers. We are driving and diapering all in the same day!!
Someone told me today, "I don't know how you do diapers and college at the same time!" My response to that is simple.
I don't either.
Thankfully, though, the God who brought us here does not intend to leave us here. As my first children stand on the very brink of adulthood and as I look back over the past 17 years, I know that He who began this good work intends to finish it. He is faithful and true and He is to be trusted.
Do you trust Him? Do you know without a doubt that He is capable of carrying you through all of life's issues - the good and the bad? I can assure you that He is.

Just take a look at what He has given to someone like me. A sinner, saved only by the grace of a mighty, mighty God. Someone who does not deserve one good thing - yet, these are just two of the good things He has placed in my life for no reason other than the simple, unexplainable fact that He loves me.
He loves you too.
