Today we packed up our cooler and our beach chairs and we headed to our summer spot at Lowdermilk Park. Throughout the hot summer days, whoever is in town from our homeschool group meets every Friday morning at the beach to hang out and fellowship. Most of us are on a Summer learning schedule which looks a little different than our Fall schedule. Not so rushed, not too many outside activities, more time for lazy afternoons with a book. Friday mornings provide the respite and "social" time we all crave. I love to watch the kids play together. I think today the ages ranged from four to nineteen. They played together. I know I said that, but it bears repeating. Their ages were four to nineteen and the played TOGETHER. In the water, on the volleyball court, climbing on the rocks, with the football.....laughing, wrestling, just hanging out.
As much as I love watching the kids play, I also love the conversation that we moms have as we sit under our umbrellas in the sand. The ladies whose faces I saw in that circle on the sand today are the ones I most admire. There were a few ladies who were absent today from our "circle", but with those exceptions, my "beach friends" are who I want to be. They are the ones who inspire me to dig deeper, to be more than I ever thought I could be. These are the strongest ladies I know. They have decided that no matter what the cost, they will fight for the hearts of their children. Along with their husbands, these ladies are leading a revolution to win back our culture, one family at a time.
These are the kind of women I want my daughters to become. These are the kind of women I want my sons to marry. Women who know their place. Women who know that God has ordained their husbands to be the head of the family, but who take very seriously their role as help meet. Women who are strong in spirit. Women like the pioneers who settled the wild West. They were feminine, yet tough. They knew how to organize their home, yet they willingly submitted to their husband's leadership. They were women who relied on their faith in an Almighty God to guide their steps.
These women God has placed in my life are like that. They are women who read the Word of God and then choose to obey it. What we do in home educating our children is not about a pat on the back. It is not about being popular or accepted. We never expect that most people will understand what we do. We realize that the majority of the world will always look at us, shake their heads and wonder what is wrong with us. Why we would want to sacrifice our careers, a two-income family, and spend all day long with our children. For the women I know, the decision is not a difficult one to make. You read the Word of God and you either obey or you don't. That is really all there is to it.
